  • Is situated on the southern shore of Lake Tana is the base to explore both the famous Blue Nile falls, Lake Tana: the largest highland lake in Ethiopia and the source of the Blue Nile River, Medieval monasteries inhabited by orthodox ecclesiastics and communities.
  • Its Altitude is 1830M and has a tropical type of climate. Its population is estimated to be 185,000-200,000. It is one of the most important industrial and commercial center and the 7th largest city in Ethiopia.
  • With its wide avenues of palms, flamboyant trees and jacaranda trees and its scenic location on the southern shore of Lake Tana Bahir Dar is one of Ethiopia’s most attractive towns
  • In the 16th and 17th Centuries many Ethiopian mobile capitals were founded around Lake Tana. It was also here that the Jesuits attempted to Catholicism on Ethiopian People. One Jesuits building that was built by the well known Spanish Missionary Pero Paez can be seen in the compound of St.George.
  • The open market of Bahir Dar displaying many items of locally manufactured cloths, agricultural products, lunch box market, the panoramic view point of the summer palace of emperor Hailesilasie, Woito village and their Basketry works are other attractions of Bahir Dar
