Kidus yohannes (New Year’s Day)

Kidus yohannes (New Year’s Day) Ethiopian new year also known as Enkutatash falls on September 11 ( Meskerem 1 Ethiopian Calendar) is an important family and social event. The new year usually  marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the dry season in the highlands of Ethiopia. Traditionally new clothes are bought and worn, particularly by children, relatives and friends are visited. Special feasts are prepared.
